On November 28, 2017 at 11:00 (UTC + 3), the National Coordination Biosafety Centre of the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus conducted a webinar on “Detection, Identification and Quantitative Determination of GMOs in Food Products, Raw Materials and Seeds within the Context of the Republic of Belarus Legislation”  for employees of the Laboratories for the Detection of GMOs and employees of Customs bodies of the Republic of Belarus. The corresponding on-line training module posted on the link http://www.biosafety.by/vebinary/ .
The module covers the following issues:
What is GMO; Legislation: the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (key concepts of the Protocol, principal provisions, precautionary approach, notification procedure); Regulation of the safety of genetic engineering activities in the Republic of Belarus, including the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On Safety in Genetic Engineering Activities” of 9 January, 2006 No. 96, specially authorized Republican Bodies of State Administration in the field of safety in genetic engineering activities, the National Coordination Biosafety Centre and its functions, Belarusian legislation in the field of GMO circulation; GMO Labeling, including requirements of national legislation and legislation of the Customs Union for labeling; National legislation, responsible organizations, notification procedure and decision-making procedures for import, export and transit of GMOs; national requirements for accredited laboratories conducting detection / identification of GMOs; standards list, containing rules and methods of research (tests) and measurements, including medical and biological assessment of safety of GMOs on the territory of the Customs Union; methods for identification and quantification of GMOs plant origin; requirements for the sampling, detection and identification techniques and GMO screening scheme.
The online module is the result of the implementation of International Technical Assistance projects:
