The gene ipdA2 (REQ_00850) is an paralog of idpA of Rhodococcus
equi but is localized outside of the cholesterol catabolic gene
cluster on the bacterial chromosome. Probably it is the alpha
subunit of a heterodimeric coenzyme A transferase. The biological
function is not elucidated yet but it was shown that the gene
product IpdA2 (GenBank accession CBH46238) acts redundantly to IdpA
in the cholesterol catabolism that is important for pathogenicity
of R. equi.
