Activity details
Description of the initiative
A regional project on biosafety which targeted 12 countries in the CARICOM region with the aim of assisting countries towards full implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.  This was to be achieved via the establishment of: (i) practical and transparent regulatory regimes for biosafety, and (ii) implementing systems for handling of notifications or requests for approvals, enforcement and monitoring, and public information and public participation.  Outputs were achieved in 4 key areas, namely capacity building, laboratory upgrades, national legal frameworks and biosafety information management.
