Potato plant was modified with the insertion of a gene coding for a proton ATPase deltaPHA1 from Saccharomyces cerevisiae which is specifically expressed in the companion cells.

The modification is expected to lead to increased tuber yield through the actions of deltaPHA2 would lead to increased loading of the phloem with photoassimilates.

As a result of the genetic modification the tuber yield of the transgenic potato plants is increased by 10-20%.
Recipient Organism or Parental Organisms
The term Recipient organism refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas Parental organisms refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.
Solanum tuberosum - Potato, SOLTU
